The annual Alexander Ball is back to reignite the Ballroom scene in Magandjin as part of Brisbane Festival. The iconic competition is once again curated by the legendary Ella Ganza, a Samoan-Māori trans woman of colour and Mother to the trailblazing House of Alexander. Ballroom was started in Harlem, NYC, in the 1970s by trans women of colour, and the culture and passion of the scene have found their way to Australian shores. The event showcases diverse ‘walkers’ from across Australia and internationally, competing to win the Grand Prize in one of multiple categories. The ball serves as a platform for self-expression, resilience, and cultural pride, forming a safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community.
